I’ve become such a sucker for subscription boxes. It’s super exciting to get a package full of goodies every month. Some boxes post spoilers on their social media containing featured items from the box and some are complete surprises. I’ve only been getting subscription boxes since November 2015, but in that time I’ve signed up for four for me, (one of which I’ve cancelled), and one for my little sister.
Benevolent Beauty Box is the newest box I’ve subscribed to. I learned about it from a cruelty-free lifestyle group I’m in on Facebook. This month’s box was their first and I was very excited to be a part of something new!
One thing I really enjoy about Benevolent Beauty Box compared the other beauty boxes I receive is the options allowing you to customize your box based on skin tone, eye and hair colours, and personal preference of bold versus neutral/light shades. The box also focuses more on full size cosmetics with some skin/hair care unlike other boxes that include more sample size products.
My April box included:
Bodisafe Nourishing Lip and Cheek Highlighter in Rustic Rose- RV $20 – Vegan
Bodisafe Night Cream- sample
Color Evolution Mineral Eyeshadow in SIEN2- RV $12 – Vegan
Dermadeli Invigorating Vitamin C Serum- RV $28.99 – Vegan
Manna Kadar Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush, Highlighter, Eyeshadow- RV $19
Red Apple Lipstick in Oh MY Guava- RV $23.50- Vegan, Gluten Free
I really loved the Bodisafe Nourishing Lip and Cheek Highlighter in Rustic Rose. It’s very pigmented so a little goes a long way. I usually use powder blushes, but this formula was very light and easily buildable. I started with a very small amount and was surprised that the product didn’t get cakey as I added more. It lasted throughout the entire day and provides a very soft, natural flush.
I have yet to try the sample of Bodisafe Night Cream. It doesn’t have much of a scent and feels very silky and creamy. I’m excited to use it once I run out of my current night cream.
The Color Evolution Mineral Eyeshadow brings me back to my high school days when I really didn’t wear much makeup other than glittery eye shadows. I’ve long grown out of that phase of my life and was really expecting to not like this product at all- I was wrong. Unlike the eye shadows I used in those days, the Color Evolution shadow is very light and looks much more pigmented than it is. I received the colour SIEN2 which is a lovely golden pink. It blends very well and gives a nice little shimmer. The little booklet that explains the products in the box says that this product can be used as an eyeliner if mixed with a bit of water. I may try that on a day I’m just playing around with different looks.
I can’t really review the Dermadeli Invigorating Vitamin C Serum yet since I’ve only used it once. The label recommends using it 2-3 times per week after cleansing and toning and to keep the product refrigerated. This serum is supposed to repair UV damage, decrease wrinkles, and improve skin elasticity. It has a very nice orange-y scent.
The Manna Kadar Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush, Highlighter, Eyeshadow is pearlized golden brown colour and I have fair skin, so I’ve only used it as an eyeshadow. I feel like it may be too dark for me to use as a blush or highlighter, but on someone with a darker skin tone I feel this product would be stunning. I really enjoyed the texture of this product. It applies easily and didn’t crease even though I didn’t use eye shadow primer.
The last item in the box was something I was very excited about. Red Apple Lipstick was the first spoiler that Benevolent Beauty Box posted to social media and a product I’ve been wanting to try for a while, but it’s price point made me nervous about purchasing in case I didn’t like the colour or formula. I received Oh MY Guava which is a nude peach. This is probably the best solid nude lipstick I’ve tried. On me, it’s dark enough that I don’t look sick or like I’m wearing concealer on my lips. It has such a creamy, soft texture and is more opaque than sheer.
Here are swatches of the products. The left is rainy day natural light and the right is indoor light. From top to bottom: Color Evolution Mineral Eyeshadow in SIEN2, Manna Kadar Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush Highlighter Eyeshadow, Bodisafe Lips and Cheeks in Rustic Rose, Red Apple Lipstick in Oh MY Guava.
I highly recommend this box whether or not you’re into buying cruelty-free products. It is on the pricer side at $29.95 a month. I was able to get the box at a discount over the life of my subscription using a code that is no longer active, so my monthly fee is $26.95. Benevolent Beauty Box is currently running a promotion where you can get 10% off your first month using the code WELCOME, (I’m not affiliated with the company. Just wanted to let you know!) This month’s box is valued at $103.50 and there are still some available in their online shop as of today, 5/2/16. Benevolent Beauty Box also donates $1 per box to Humane Society International to help end animal testing and cruelty.
