I think this is going to be the last week I’m going to do Thirsty Thursday in this current format. I’m going to be switching it over to reviews on specific beers or breweries and possibly cocktail recipes. Exciting stuff!

I covered a bar shift in the beer garden of the restaurant where I work. It was a really slow night and it was quite hot and muggy. While I was cleaning and closing up the bar, I had two Schöfferhofer Grapefruits. I love when I get to have this beer on draft.
While cathing up on season three of Orange Is The New Black and painting my nails, I decided to finally open the growler of Harpoon Vanilla Porter my boyfriend brought me back from Boston in April. Surprisingly it still had carbonation.
Appearance: dark brown, lasting off white head
Aroma: dark chocolate, vanilla bean, slightly roasty
Taste: follows smell, good amount of chocolate and vanilla, slightly sweet
Feel: slick, moderate carbonation
Overall: I really enjoyed this beer. It’s not the best vanilla porter I’ve had, but it’s definitely up there for me. I want to visit the brewery and try this fresh.
Jason was in a beer mood and opened a Best Damn Cherry Cola. He took one sip and pawned it off on me.
Appearance: drank from the bottle
Aroma: cherry Mr. Sketch scented marker
Taste: follows smell with artificial sugar and cough medicine aftertaste
Feel: light body, moderate carbonation
Overall: I really think that Best Damn Brewing Co. needs to change their name. I’ve tried two of their products now and they were both terrible.

After a slow night at work, a couple of my co-workers and I decided to hang around for a drink or two. Jason concocted this White Peach Sangria with some sort of white wine, peach schnapps, and pineapple juice. I’m not a fan of peach anything, but this was pretty tasty.
Still in the mood for something sweet, I ordered a Malibu Bay Breeze. It’s made with Malibu coconut rum, cranberry juice, and pineapple juice. I am a lover of simple fruity drinks.
I drank a good amount of Barrier Brewing Company Icculus Kölsch this week. (See my tasting notes from 5/20/16 here.) We’re trying to kill the keg so we can get new stuff on draft at work.
While I was waiting for the bus to go hang out with two of my coworkers at a bar near work, I had a Schofferhofer Grapefruit, (tasting notes from 4/16/16). Two of my co-workers and I hung out for a bit after work and had a drink. I didn’t take any pictures of my beer on Friday, but I had a Barrier Brewing Company Icculus Kölsch.
Appearance: straw coloured, foamy white head
Aroma: fruity, grainy
Taste: grainy, grassy, fruit (lime?)
Feel: crisp, light body
Overall: I don’t think this beer is a great example of a kölsch style, but I like it nonetheless. It’s super light and has a good amount of flavour.

I covered a wait shift at work today that started out quite hectic and ended pretty slow. Knowing I had a double to look forward to on Monday, I just had a simple Hot Toddy while writing up some blog posts.
As usual, I like to try new things when I go out or am in a drinking mood. I tend to fall back on old favourites when at parties, when I’m not feeling great, or when I’m simply relaxing. This week was a mix of both new and old.

I had a pretty annoying night at work, but Jason wanted to go out when he came to pick me up.We were thinking about starting at Flagship Brewery, but they close early. Instead we walked the couple of blocks to Craft House.
Craft House is a really awesome bar/restaurant. They serve creative BBQ and have a fantastic beer selection. They have also started serving liquor since the last time I’ve been there. It was a super sticky/muggy night, so I opted to start the night with some ciders.
Crispin Blackberry Pear Cider is one of my favourite ciders. The first time I ever had it, it was on draft at Craft House. They no longer offer it on draft, but they do have it in bottles.
Appearance: clear reddish purple
Aroma: blackberry, pear
Taste: tart, blackberry, pear
Feel: smooth, easy to drink, light body, low carbonation
Overall: I love this stuff. It’s very straight forward.
Hello! It’s time once again for a run down of my drinks of the last week. I was in a weird place mentally and just wanted to stay curled up in bed as much as I could. I pretty much only drank after work and split most drinks with someone else.

My first drink of the week was a taste of Avery Brewing Company Raja Double IPA. One of the regulars at the bar was drinking it and offered me a taste.
Appearance: hazy yellow/gold
Aroma: pine, fruit
Taste: hoppy, citrus, tropical fruit
Feel: smooth, light bodied
Overall: This beer is super dangerous. It’s 8% and so easy to drink. I’d try a whole can to myself.
This past week of drinking was a bit crazy. I started off going hard and decided to taper off rather quickly due to the sheer amount of alcohol consumed.

New York City public schools were on their spring break this week, so Jason had off from work. He still a lot of work to do for grad school, but made time for a date day on Thursday. We dubbed it to be the Thirstiest Thursday because we’re degenerates. He decided that we should go to Brooklyn and try a bunch of places we’ve never been before.
Our first stop was Brooklyn Crab for lunch. Jason’s brother, Mitch, recommended it and it’s a place I’ve been wanting to visit for a while. It was chilly and the downstairs outside area wasn’t open for the season ye, so we opted to sit upstairs on the second floor. It was very cute with wooden chairs and tables and garage door style windows. There were even little holes in the dividers filled with different types of hot sauce. (I regret not taking pictures. I was embarrassed to because there weren’t many customers and the staff kinda just hung out in the dining room.) The space has a lovely view of NY Harbor.

While getting ready to go to the opera to see La Boheme with my mother I popped open a Rekorderlig Päron (Pear). This cider has been sitting in my fridge for a while. I’m a fan of pear ciders in general, however I usually find Rekorderlig to be very sweet.
